The destroyer USS Hobson sank on April 26, 1952, after a collision with the aircraft carrier USS Wasp during a night training exercise in the Atlantic Ocean. The Hobson was attempting to cross the Wasp's bow when the carrier struck the destroyer amidships, cutting it in half.
