US Air Force Col Joe Jackson: Medal of Honor Recipient Vietnam War On May 12, 1968, Lt. Col. Joe Jackson flew straight into enemy fire to attempt a daring rescue. A three-man Air Force Combat Control Team was trapped at the besieged Kham Duc Special Forces camp, surrounded by enemy forces, under heavy fire, and with the airstrip engulfed in explosions and debris. Despite knowing the extreme danger, Jackson volunteered to land his unarmed C-123 transport aircraft. Braving intense fire and narrow
