The head of China’s famous Shaolin Temple has been defrocked as he is investigated by authorities for alleged financial offenses and sexual misconduct.

Shi Yongxin, the abbot of the world-renowned Shaolin Temple, is being investigated by multiple agencies for embezzlement, "improper relationships with multiple women" and "fathering illegitimate children", the temple said on Sunday.

China's Shaolin Temple said its abbot, Shi Yongxin, is under investigation for misappropriation and embezzlement of funds.
