A suspect in custody has been charged with murder following targeted shootings that killed one Minnesota lawmaker and injured another. Gov. Tim Walz called the shootings "politically motivated" in a news briefing on Saturday.

The man accused of killing a Minnesota lawmaker and wounding another went to the homes of two other legislators on the night of the shootings, intending to inflict more carnage against those on his hitlist, a federal prosecutor said Monday.

Vance Boelter was captured in a wooded area on Sunday night, and charged in the shootings of two state lawmakers and their spouses. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
