After nearly three months in Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention, pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil made a request to move closer to his family.
A former Columbia University graduate who has been fighting deportation over his participation in pro-Palestinian protests was ordered released from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility by a federal judge.
An immigration judge on April 10 declared Khalil deportable as a national security risk in response to a declaration from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The judge, Jamee E. Comans, found that the government had established that Khalil being in the U.S. posed “potentially serious foreign policy consequences," according to The Associated Press.
