Indiana will execute Benjamin Ritchie early May 20, 2025 more than two decades after his murder conviction in the killing of Beech Grove officer William Toney.

Death row inmate Benjamin Ritchie was executed by lethal injection shortly after midnight Tuesday at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, according to Department of Correction officials.

An Indiana man convicted in the fatal shooting of a police officer in 2000 was executed Tuesday by lethal injection in the state’s second execution in 15 years.

Ritchie, 45, was the second person put to death in Indiana since 2009, following a 15-year hiatus due to the state’s inability to obtain the drugs to carry out lethal injections.
