The Kansas City Chiefs finished off their preseason slate tonight against the Chicago Bears with a surprise in the lineup.

Andy Reid switched his playing time approach this preseason, starting backup quarterback Gardner Minshew in the second game, last weekend at Seattle, and playing Mahomes, Travis Kelce and other starters through most of the first half in the team’s only prep game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

But for the Chiefs, that picture included winning on the outside, throwing effectively into tight windows, throwing deep, providing the quarterback with ample time to throw deep and returning a play to the sheet that could draw defenses closer to the line of scrimmage or punish their refusal to do so.
