The Butte Creek fire, burning 30 miles northwest of Madras, also started Friday, this one on the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation. It has grown to 2,000 acres and is 5% contained, according to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center. No homes have been burned.

A wildfire in Central Oregon quickly grew over the weekend to become the nation's largest so far this year after burning over 95,000 acres.

The fire, which broke out on July 13, exploded in size over recent days due to hot and dry conditions and gusty winds in parts of the state.
