Verizon’s stock is still up 4.6% this year, ahead of the roughly 5% decline for the S&P 500 but lagging shares of AT&T Inc. and T-Mobile US Inc. which are up 12% and 15%, respectively.
One noteworthy tidbit, however, had to do with Verizon’s planned fiber expansion. Last fall, the company announced it was acquiring Frontier in a $20 billion transaction.
The acquisition of Frontier, if completed, will expand Verizon's fiber footprint to about 50% more locations, but the firm still only reaches less than one quarter of the US population.
