iHeart on MSN5.4 Magnitude Earthquake Reported In USA 5.4-magnitude earthquake was reported in Alaska on Wednesday (July 16), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Atka at a depth of 69 kilometers (about 43 miles). The USGS said it received one report of person having felt the earthquake at the time of publication.
This is now the largest recorded earthquake swarm at Mount Rainier since seismic monitoring at the volcano began in 1982, the Cascades Volcano Observatory said. With quakes ongoing, the swarm has already surpassed a major event in 2009 “in terms of magnitude, total events, event rate, and energy release.”
