Before President Zelensky arrived at the White House, President Trump - who waited briefly outside before greeting his Ukrainian counterpart - was asked by a reporter if he felt it was going to be a good meeting. Trump gave no words in response, and flashed a thumbs-up instead.
But showing Trump pictures of war atrocities and referring to President Vladimir Putin, Zelenskyy said there should be “no compromises with a killer on our territory”. “Crazy Russians,” he said, had deported Ukrainian children and committed war crimes during their three-year invasion of his country.
Trump has been deeply critical of the Ukrainian president in recent days while offering friendlier words about his Russian counterpart.
