WASHINGTON (AP) — National Guard troops and Humvees guarded some Washington landmarks Thursday and advocacy organizations helped clear homeless encampments in advance of an anticipated crackdown as President Donald Trump's takeover of city police ramped up.

Federal officials in Washington, D.C. swept through a large homeless encampment Thursday and dismantled it. It's part of the Trump administration's purge to crack down on crime across D.C.

Both figures are above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. The new numbers suggest that slowing rent increases and cheaper gas are at least partly offsetting the impacts of Trump’s tariffs. Many businesses are also likely still absorbing much of the cost of the duties instead of passing them along to customers via higher prices.
