Rumors about Rivian’s plans for a UK factory come not long after a report about the EV startup’s intention to invest $5 billion in a second plant in the US.
Rivian is backed by Amazon and Ford, among others. A new report is circulating claiming that the electric vehicle maker is in talks with ministers in the UK to build a factory there.
The UK is not the only country Rivian is in talks to for a new factory. According to Financial Times (paywall), Rivian is also considering proposals from at least two other European countries.
The business park offers a range of plots and buildings targeted at high-tech firms and wants to be the UK’s answer to Silicon Valley. However, Rivian is not fully convinced just yet.
If the UK plant did go ahead, though, the government could supposedly invest "well over" £1 billion (about $1.39 billion). Rivian declined to comment.

Two rivals to a UK Rivian plant are Germany and the Netherlands, who each have their own proposals out to the R1T creators. More details are sure to come to light in coming weeks.
It isn’t yet clear if Rivian has requested funding or tax breaks for the UK site but constructing it could require an investment of over £1 billion ($1.38 million).
