Rivian will not be adding a "tank turn" feature to its electric vehicles, company CEO RJ Scaringe has confirmed. It would have allowed them to spin in place like a top.

On Christmas day, Rivian posted a video to its YouTube channel of a unique "Tank Turn" feature that it seemed to indicate would actually be included on next year's R1T pickup and R1S SUV.

Rivian first showed the feature, which allows a quad-motor R1T or R1S to turn in place like a tank, in 2019. A patent application for a seemingly related "K-turn mode" surfaced in 2021.

Although Rivian initially held back on the tank turn feature ahead of the R1S and R1T’s launch, it is coming for the long-awaited second generation of the quad-motor models.
