Rivian has announced a new “California Dune Edition” version of its new Tri-Motor R1, in a special color and with an options package focused on off-road performance.

Elon Musk said the Cybertruck is being updated with four-motor drive and four-wheel steering ahead of its launch next year. Both features can be found on the Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV.

Rivian says its Gen 2 Quad has more than 1,000 horsepower and 1,198 pound-feet of torque. That made scaling up a rocky mound in Lake Tahoe a breeze.

The second generation of Rivian R1 models gets its first special editions by way of the new California Dune Edition. Complete with a bespoke hue and off-road hardware, it looks ready for Glamis.
