Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming service, Freevee, is officially coming to an end, and the shutdown date is fast approaching. After offering users access to thousands of movies and TV shows without a subscription, the Freevee app will be discontinued in August 2025.
The Freevee app will shut down in August, but its content library is already available on Prime Video. According to a November 2024 Deadline report, Freevee originals will remain free and available to non-Prime customers. The content will have a “Watch for Free” label on detail pages.

CNBC reported that Amazon will discontinue its standalone service, Freevee, and will point users to watch content on Prime Video. Freevee launched in 2019 under the film and TV site IMDb, which has been owned by Amazon since 1998. It offers free, ad-supported video, including original series and some Prime Video content.
Until recently, it seemed video streaming had a channel for every taste. Fans of the 1970s Western drama “Little House on the Prairie,” for instance, could spend time on the channel by the same name watching old episodes.
Amazon said, “Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies and Live TV" once Freevee is shuttered.
