India captain Rohit Sharma revealed the reason behind selecting Varun Chakravarthy over Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. Chakravarthy picked up a five-wicket haul in his first outing of the tournament.

Before India's tournament opener against Bangladesh, Rohit had said that Chakravarthy doesn't "bowl a lot of variations" in the nets. Rohit said that Chakravarthy "bowls only one kind of variety" to them.

In the match played against New Zealand in Dubai in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Varun Chakravarthy took his team out of difficult situations by taking five wickets and led them to victory. He also became the second Indian bowler to complete 5 hauls in this tournament.
