A salmonella outbreak in cucumbers prompted Big Y Foods to voluntarily recall made-to-order deli sandwiches sold in some Connecticut stores, the company says.

As people get ready for their backyard cookouts this weekend, there's a recall alert from Giant. The supermarket is recalling store-brand salsa because it could have salmonella. The recall includes Giant's or Martin's brand hot salsa and mild salsa in 16-ounce containers.

These sandwiches — sold between Tuesday and Wednesday — might be contaminated with salmonella, the company said Thursday.

Big Y is issuing a voluntary recall after salmonella was detected in one of its ingredients in its made-to-order kitchen sandwiches. The recall affects made-to-order subs, wraps, and paninis made and sold at multiple Big Y locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts on May 20 and May 21.

The Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of cucumbers because of possible Salmonella contamination. Bedner Growers, Inc. of Boynton Beach, Florida voluntarily recalled the cucumbers which were sold at three markets in Florida and to a wholesale distributor.
