The Quail Hollow members knew what they were doing when they nicknamed the last three holes after a film by horror legend Stephen King set on death row. In the film, The Green Mile represents the final walk to oblivion for the condemned.

The Green Mile nearly sent Masters champion Rory McIlroy home early from the PGA Championship. Quail Hollow’s closing three holes known did a number on several other players, too. The Green Mile has lived up to its diabolical reputation this week as one of the most difficult closing stretches in golf and has had a major impact on the leaderboard.

Quail Hollow member and 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson said: “I can’t think of a three-hole stretch ... that is tougher than the Green Mile.”
