England coach Sarina Wiegman says defender Jess Carter is ready to play in the Women's European Championship semifinals against Italy after being targeted with racist abuse online.

England coach Sarina Wiegman said Monday that Lionesses defender Jess Carter is "ready to perform" in the Women's Euro 2025 semi-final against Italy despite racial abuse against her overshadowing the build-up to the game.

The Lionesses defender, who has 49 England caps, said she was stepping back from social media to "protect myself in a bid to keep my focus on helping the team anyway I can".
