Former UNLV football player Ben Christman was determined to have died from cardiac arrhythmia and cardiomyopathy, according to the Clark Co. (Nev.) Coroner. Cardiac arrhythmia is also known as an irregular heartbeat and cardiomyopathy is a disease that weakens the heart muscles.

College football player Ben Christman's cause of death has been revealed almost three months after he was found dead at age 21. Christman — a student and football player at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) — was discovered deceased in his off-campus apartment on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 11, PEOPLE previously reported.

Christman reportedly felt chest pains the day before he died while practicing and underwent an EKG at a team facility.
